| Abstract: | Ground-based solar polarimetry has made tremendous progress over the last decade. Novel approaches such as ZIMPOL are pushing the limits of what can be done. Nevertheless, solar polarimetry is still an afterthought in most telescope and instrument designs. I will provide an overview of what is important in designing telescopes and instruments to achieve the ultimate polarimetric performance and what needs to be done so that the final telescope-instrument-polarimeter system is more than the sum of its parts. |
